Hitchpost

Privacy

Last updated 13 October 2026

The short version. Hitchpost works on your computer. Without an account, nothing leaves it. With an account, only your plan and your minutes are stored, so that your partner and your other devices can see them. Hitchpost never sees your screen, never records what you type, shows no ads and sells nothing.

Who is responsible

Hitchpost is made by Osegonte Hopo, who is the data controller for the account service. Write to segohopo@gmail.com about anything in this policy.

On your computer, with or without an account

To keep a block's apps open and the rest shut, Hitchpost reads the names of open apps, their window titles, and the addresses of browser tabs. On a Mac this needs the Accessibility permission. It uses them to decide what to close and to count time spent on distractions outside blocks.

This stays on your computer. Window titles, addresses and app names are never sent anywhere. Your settings, history and the distraction counts are stored in a file on your computer, and uninstalling Hitchpost removes them.

If you make an account

An account is optional. It's needed for a partner and for using Hitchpost on more than one device. It stores:

WhatWhy
Your email addressTo sign you in with a code. We send no other email.
Your name, @username and time zoneSo a friend can find you, and so "today" means your today.
Your blocks: name, kind, start, length, the days they repeat onSo your plan is the same on every device.
Your sessions: which block or project, the kind, when it started and ended, focused minutes, why it ended (for example "ended early"), and a one-line note if you write oneFor your history, your streak and your partner's view.
Your daily target, and your own list of sites to blockSo they apply on every device.
Your devices: the type, a name such as "MacBook", and when each was last seenSo a session can be joined from your other devices.
Your partner, partner requests, and nudges between youThe accountability features.

It never stores window titles, web addresses, app names from your computer, or how long you spent on any particular app or site.

What your partner sees

Only someone you've both agreed to pair with. They see what you choose in Partner → What they see of you: your totals, your totals per kind, or nothing for today. They can also see when a block is running, when one ends early, and when you take ten minutes out (with the reason, if you choose to share it). They never see anything from the list above that says "never stored".

Who handles the data

Both process data only to provide those services for Hitchpost.

Why we're allowed to

We use your account data to provide the service you signed up for (performance of a contract, GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)). We keep basic security logs, such as sign-in attempts, because we have a legitimate interest in keeping accounts safe (Art. 6(1)(f)).

How long it's kept, and deleting it

Account data is kept until you delete your account. To delete it, email segohopo@gmail.com from the address you signed in with. Everything is removed within 30 days, and your partner is unpaired. Data on your computer is yours to delete at any time, by uninstalling.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to how it's used, or ask for it in a portable format. Write to the address above. If you're in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Age

You need to be at least 16 to make an account, or 13 with a parent's permission. The app itself works without an account at any age.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the app and this page will say so before the change applies. The date at the top always shows the latest version.
